Special Health Promotion Programmes
Sri Lanka is perceived as a leading country with an impressive record of health care provision. All these achievements in health sector is due to proper policy planning and resource allocations as well as innovative strategies advocated time to time. Successes of these initiatives have been reflected in the comparatively higher health indices such as maternal and child health, low levels of communicable diseases with the countries of similar GDP. As a consequence, improvement in the life expectancy and higher standards of quality of life was achieved.
Being one of the foremost province of the country, Southern province is well prepared to implement the existing government policies in providing protection, promotion and optimization of health facilities for nearly 2.5 million inhabitants of the Southern province through the hospitals and field staff of the health services through innovative strategies. Although our health indicators are in a standard position in comparison with the national level, it is important to consider the sustainability of the health status with the implementation of new strategies that can be addressed to the community. In order to achieve this goal following concepts are carried forward. The leadership for these programmes is provided by the Hon Chief Minister and Minister of Health of the Southern province with the Provincial Director of Health Services.
